2018 Design Trends

Authenticity and personality are the top two driving forces behind 2018's up and coming trends. Here are 3 hots and 3 nots to update your space as we disembark on the new year.

What's Out #1 : Rustic

Reclaimed wood is slowing slipping into the shadows as softer textures and dark stone take its place.

What's In #1 : Dark Stone & Black Finishes

Stones like onyx and agate are making waves in interiors and beautifully accompanied by black finishes as opposed to stainless steel, white, and carrara marble.

What's Out #2 : Faux Industrial

Let's be honest here, industrial interiors will never go out of style. Faux industrial, on the other hand, is losing ground as genuine personality and authenticity drive people to use what they've got, despite current trends. I think it's absolutely wonderful.

What's In #2 : Bold Patterns & Statement Ceilings

Don't let anyone tell you that crazy bright floral print is too much! Bold patterns and floral prints are a great statement and a way to show off your personality. Mixing patterns is fun and creates interest, and it's perfectly okay to not match. Statement ceilings are taking the place of accent walls (yay!) and draws your eye up where there otherwise wouldn't be any interest. Please, go crazy.

What's Out #3 : White On White

Can we all just admit that this is probably the best thing to happen this year? I know we're all so tired of the overwhelming amount of white, while it might be clean and inviting, it's incredibly boring. White on white kitchens have come to a halt while jewel tones and millennial pink take their place, and I could't be happier. Jewel tones contrast so beautifully with metal and millennial pink is so soft, yet so bold. It's contrasting in, and of, itself.

What's In #3 : Violet

2018 Color of the Year, ladies and gentlemen, is violet. Violet has always represented royalty and wealth and I think it's about time we all embrace the wonderful emotions this color stirs up. I realize, though, that not all of us are so daring as to paint the walls purple. So my tip for the new year is to bring in some lavender. Lavender plants will not only give you a splash of purple in your space, but it has some amazing properties that you might find useful. For instance: lavender tea has been known to help with digestive issues as well as pain relief, while lavender oil helps to treat depression, insomnia, and anxiety. I can tell you from experience that it does help!
